On July 3, 2022, Karen Gayle Golden went to be with our Lord and live Life after Life. Thanks to the hospice nurses and caregivers, her final days were peaceful and spent with her family by her side. Those who loved her most called her Karen, May, Ma, PeMa, Grandma, and probably many more.
Karen was born August 31, 1938, in Shawnee, OK, to Beulah Roberts-Hewes and Russell Pete Hewes. She was their only living child.
After graduating from Shawnee High School in 1956, Karen went to ECU for a semester before moving to Oklahoma City and working for Ford. She then moved to the Oklahoma Farm Bureau, where she met her husband of 60 years. After marrying Larry, the rules were against married couples working at the same company, so Karen changed careers and began working at GE, where she worked until they had Julie.
Karen was preceded in death by her husband, Larry; stepson Larry Dean; grandson Uriah Jeremy; and her parents. Karen is survived by her daughter Julie Lamb and husband Rick; stepdaughter Teresa “Tere” Shook; granddaughter Melissa Hitt; grandsons, Curtis O’Rorke and Jeff Ginter and wife Rachel; and 2 great-grandsons, Kamen Stern and Liam O’Rorke.
Karen was very dedicated and enjoyed her family. She had a different relationship with each family member. She loved her husband of 60 years and took great care of him. She was quite funny even when she wasn’t trying. Karen enjoyed traveling to Mexico and anywhere there was a beach and water. She loved the lake, boating, and the lake house. Her interests were in simple pleasures like working in her garden, interior decorating, and reading. She loved to bowl and was in a bowling league until just a few years ago. She also made the best fudge on the planet. Karen was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Edmond and loved Sunday School.
