Gary Lynn Martin (Cowboy), age 74, of Edmond, Oklahoma passed away on Saturday, December 16, 2023. Gary was born on May 30, 1949, to Andrew George Martin Jr and Martha Imogene Smart in Fredrick, Oklahoma.
From 1967 to 1971 Gary was a Sergeant in the United States Marines. He was a Vietnam Veteran and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, Good Conduct Medal, and the Presidential Unit Citation. While Gary’s proudest career accomplishment was serving in the Marine Corp, he still had room for some fun and laughter.
Some of Gary’s favorite pastimes were motorcycle riding, camping out at the lake, and floating the rivers. Out of all hobbies, he loved spending time with family. Family gatherings, bickering, playing cards, and marbles were the little but big things that made Gary’s life amusing and entertaining. He loved family reunions and celebrations and looked forward to the next time he would see his family. His family and friends were always able to count on him. Some of Gary’s favorite songs were “Take this Job and Shove it,” “I Fought the Law and the Law Won,” “There’s a tear in my Beer,” and “On the Road Again.” Gary had a good life and a great childhood. He went into the Military, had a great family and career, and his family values and traditions will carry on. He was a Friend to Anyone and loved by Everyone!
Gary is preceded in death by father Andrew George Martin Jr. and mother Martha Imogene Smart and Brother Danny Martin.
Gary is survived by his three children, Jason Martin and wife Sarah of Edmond, Oklahoma, Maleah Finucane and husband Mike of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Holly Martin of Moore, Oklahoma and his five sisters Jerry Martin, Sherry Brown, Janet Murphy, Debbie Bock, and Phyllis Sands. Gary is also survived by seven grandchildren - Cody Martin, Ariel Johnson, Breanna Gitner, Devin Martin, Michael Finucane, Preston Brunswick, Chanc Brunswick and two great-grandchildren Iris and Averly along with six nieces, eight nephews, and many cousins, in-laws, & great nieces & nephews.
