Dorothy Deming died peacefully in her sleep at Epworth Villa in OKC after a short battle with COPD and Dementia. She was born Jan. 7, 1929 in Ryan, OK to John and Jessie (May) DeLaughter. During the time she grew up, Dorothy’s family traveled to many places in OK, Illinois and Arkansas due to her father’s occupation as a Telegraph Operator. Dorothy graduated high school in 1947, and shortly after went to work at Southwestern Bell. She attended OKC University from 1950-1952 and majored in business. Dorothy met Harry on a blind date during a dance at the VFW Dance Hall in 1955. They were married in 1959 during a double ceremony with her sister June and brother-in-law, Dale. In 1957, Dorothy was promoted to Assistant Manager in the Traffic Dept. at Southwestern Bell until her retirement in 1984. After Southwestern Bell, she worked at John A. Brown’s from 1984-1989 as a sales clerk in the wedding registry Dept. In 1988-2010, she worked for the State Senate as a switchboard operator at the Capitol. Dorothy loved to deer hunt in her earlier years, she also enjoyed painting and other crafts with mother and sister, June. She loved her work friends and her family was very important to her, she loved baking birthday cakes for them. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents; sister and brother. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Harry; son, Ralph Deming and wife Wendy; grandson, Joshua and many other relatives. The family would like to thank Dr. Jesse Campbell, Mercy Hospital staff and Epworth Villa staff for the wonderful care during her illness. Also, to the friends and family for their support. A reception will be held 12:30pm, Saturday, Oct. 6 at Baggerley Funeral Home for friends and family and then services to follow at 2:00pm. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Epworth Villa benevolent fund.
