Carl W. Young of Edmond passed peacefully on November 9, 2022. He was born December 23, 1930 on a farm near Ada, OK. Carl was an active member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church teaching Sunday School and serving on various Boards and Committees. He also was active in leadership with United Methodist Men and attended many local, regional and international conferences with the United Methodist Church as a lay delegate. It was at St. Luke's where he met and married Beverly. He loved reading, studying the Bible, and was an avid fan of the Sooners football and basketball teams.
A veteran of the Korean War, Carl served four years in the Navy on the USS-Marshall. After returning from the service, Carl worked for Southwestern Bell for 32 years, with perfect attendance for 28 years. During his years with the phone company, Carl received his undergraduate degree in accounting and studied law at Oklahoma City University passing the bar exam in 1974. He went on to practice law full time specializing in estate planning and tax preparation after the phone company divestiture.
Carl was preceded in death by his father Truman Young, his mother Ernestine Young, his step-father William Lance, his sister Gayle Hodur, his brother-in-law Joseph Patacsil and his nephew Matt Patacsil.
He is survived by his wife Beverly Young of Edmond, Oklahoma; his son Steven Young of Altus, Oklahoma; his daughter Laura Young of Edmond, Oklahoma; his sister Joyce Patacsil of Logansport, Indiana and his brother-in-law Richard Hodur of Medford, Oregon and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 2, 2022, at 1:00 PM in the chapel at St. Luke's United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to The United Methodist Men Foundation in Nashville, Tennessee (615) 620 - 7262.
