Olive L. Longenecker, 75, of Stroudsburg, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2016 at Pocono Medical Center. She was the devoted wife of the late A.Garey Longenecker, with whom she shared 43 years of marriage before he passed away in 2008.
Born March 23, 1940 in East Stroudsburg, she was the daughter of the late Edgar H. Cruse Sr. and the late Olive Mae (Custer) Cruse.
Olive was an unassuming, plainspoken woman who loved her friends and family. After graduating from Stroudsburg High School in 1959, Oly worked for F.W. Woolworth for several years before she married the love of her life on August 8, 1965. As a married woman, she took a break from work so she could stay home and take care of her children. She loved her family very much, including her pets. She loved animals of all kinds and often visited the zoo with her grandchildren; sharing her love of animals with them. Oly was a member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary Post #346. She enjoyed crocheting, watching the Sci-Fi Channel continuously, and had an undying love for chocolate. Oly was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her contagious smile and personality will be missed by all who had the pleasure to know her.
In addition to her late husband, Garey and her parents, Olive had been preceded in death by her brother, Edgar H. Cruse Jr.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Sherri Clayton-Williams and her Husband, Kyle, of Chambersburg, PA; and Alan Longenecker and his wife Leigh, of Newark, DE; her sister: Shirley Battern of East Stroudsburg, PA; her grandchildren: Noah, Emily, Jeremy, and Deanna; many nieces and nephews and her furry companion, her cat Missy.
Family and friends are welcome to gather for the memorial service on Saturday, February 20, 2016 from 10 am until the time of service at The Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, 27 Washington Street, East Stroudsburg, PA 18301. Funeral services will begin at 11am led by Rev. Bob Shank of the Stroudsburg United Methodist Church. Cremation has been entrusted to the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home.
