She was born in East Stroudsburg on February 29, 1936 a daughter of the late Rudolph J. and Helen R. (Smith) Pleyer. Joan graduated from Stroudsburg High School, class of 1954. She was the homemaker to her family and was employed in sales for several area retailers until her retirement. Joan was also a lifelong resident of Monroe County.
Joan was a member of the former Grace Lutheran Church, East Stroudsburg, the Golden Chords, of the Salvation Army, East Stroudsburg, and enjoyed reading, gardening, crochet, loved to sing and anything to do with cats.
Preceding her in death in addition to her parents was her first son during infancy James L. Meyers Jr. a sister, Emma V. Mansfield and a grandson, Michael J. Meyers Jr.
Surviving is her husband Monte Peters of East Stroudsburg; sons, Michael J. Meyers of Stroudsburg, Steven S. Meyers and MaryAnn of North Augusta, S.C., and James A. Meyers and his girlfriend Brenda Evarts also of Stroudsburg; step-daughters, Dawn M. Stout, of East Stroudsburg, Denise Ringhoff of East Stroudsburg and Darlene Goelz of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; grandchildren, Joseph J. Meyers, David A. Meyers, Brett J. Meyers, John R. Meyers, Elisabeth R. Meyers, Julianna R. Meyers, Caitlyn R. Stout, and Tyler D. Ringhoff and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday January 8, 2014 at noon in the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, Inc. 27 Washington Street, East Stroudsburg, with Rev. Amy Banka Pastor of Faith United Methodist Church, Stroudsburg, officiating. Interment will follow in Cherry Valley Cemetery, Cherry Valley Road, Stroudsburg.
A public visitation will be held on Wednesday January 8, 2014 from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, Inc. 27 Washington Street, East Stroudsburg.
