He was born in Richmond, Virginia on May 24, 1938 to Dewey Jackson and Clarice Glass Oslin. After attending Virginia Polytechnic Institute, he met Carmen May McKinney; they married in 1960 and had two children, Bryan Dewey Oslin in 1962 and Karen May Oslin in 1965.
His work in the mortgage business brought the family to Chattanooga in April of 1967. From that starting point with Schumacher Mortgage Company, he subsequently opened his own business, Oslin Mortgage Company, and with a keen interest in real estate and real estate education, he, along with business partner, William Whisnant, in the mid-1970’s,began T.R.E.E.S., Tennessee Real Estate Education System, creating the first state-wide course curriculum for students in real estate education. Mr. Whisnant continues at the helm of T.R.E.E.S. today.
After a divorce from Carmen, Ron married Dottie Crane, who remained his wife until her death in 2017. He then married Pauline LaBrosse in January 2018, who remained lovingly at his side through his last years.
Ron had a long and distinguished Masonic career. He was a Scottish Rite 33rd degree Mason; past Personal Representative of the Sovereign Grand Inspector General in Tennessee; past President of the Chattanooga Scottish Rite Foundation; past Worshipful Master of Signal Mountain Lodge; emeritus member and Past Sovereign of the Red Cross of Constantine; past Commander of Lookout Commandry No. 14 of the Knights Templar; Past High Priest of Hill City Chapter and served as the last Illustrious Master of Delta Council. Bro. Ron was also the Past Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star for the State of Tennessee and a member of Brainerd Lodge. He was also the past Potentate of Alhambra Shrine and served on many Masonic committees. Bro. Ron was known for his outstanding oratorial skills and conferred significant portions of important degrees in Scottish Rite.
Ron is survived by his wife, Polly.
He is also survived by his first wife, Carmen Williams (Rick Williams); children, Bryan Dewey Oslin (Brenda Oslin) and Karen Just; grandchildren, Kristen Oslin Pepper (Will Pepper), Bryan Jackson Oslin (Roberta Oslin), Madison Connor, Isabella Hincher (Jake Hincher); great-grandchildren, Brantley Kautter, Anna Kate Pepper, Caroline Lee Pepper. He is also survived by step-grandchildren, Tyler, Haley, and Morgan Phillips of Hartselle, AL.
Visitation will be held at Chattanooga Funeral Home, East Chapel on Saturday, Dec 17, 2022. Visitation from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., followed by a Masonic funeral service at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens in Hixson, TN.
