Bob was born in Port Deposit, Maryland to Rev. Wayne and Edith Monroe. After three years in the Air Force, Bob pursued his love of music completing his doctorate in music at Florida State. During that time he met and married Pat, his wife of 66 years. Bob taught orchestra and band for several years and then felt the Lord leading him to Covenant College. He moved the family which now included three daughters to Lookout Mountain and he enjoyed 20 years teaching instrumental music at Covenant. While teaching was his calling, playing trombone in the Chattanooga Symphony gave him a professional outlet for his love of brass instruments.
Bob became a Christian at age 10 and spent his life reading and living out God’s Word and imparting Biblical truths to his family and students.
Bob had numerous, quirky things to say. No doubt we the family will hear ourselves uttering them from time to time. His love for all things tomatoes, tractors, cows and fences will make us smile. The family will always think of Bob, Dad and Grandpa every time we hear, “Praise God from whom all blessings flow, Praise Him all creatures here below, Praise Him above ye heavenly hosts, Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost.”
Bob was preceded in death by his siblings Wayne(Madalyn) Monroe, Ruth (Tommy) Lynn, Ross Monroe and brothers and sisters in-laws, Bill Bostic, Jim Dobbins, Genevieve (Ken) Prowell, and Jane (Jim) Warden. Bob is survived by his sweet wife, Janet Patricia Monroe, daughters Tami (David) Lower, Lori (Richard) Krabbendam, Sheri (Craig) Bouvier, grandchildren Aften (Aaron) Wieldraayer, Carson Whitmore, Payton Lower, Eli Bouvier and Aubrey Bouvier, brothers and sisters Millie Bostic, Jane Dobbins, Allen (Beverly) Monroe, Mary Ponder and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church on Thursday, September 15, with visitation at 3:30 p.m. followed by a service at 4:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Covenant College, 14049 Scenic Highway, Lookout Mountain, GA 30750.
