He was a native of Chattanooga, born August 12, 1924. A graduate of City High School, he joined the Navy during World War II, and served on the USS New Orleans. After the war, he went to work for Mueller Company as a patternmaker where he retired after forty years of service. John was active with his daughters at East Ridge High School activities, and coached their softball teams in the summer. John was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Roberta Howard.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty Lou Ezell of Rossville, Georgia and Dona (Don) Dunn of Lubbock, Texas; grandson, Jonathan Northcutt Dunn, a senior at Auburn University; sister, Peggy (Bill) Woods; brother, Jim (Audra) Howard; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 10 AM to 12 Noon Friday at the funeral home. Graveside Service will follow at 1 PM on Friday, July 15, 2011 at Forest Hills Cemetery with Rev. Wayland Stewart officiating.
