Janice White Atkinson, 72, of Chattanooga passed away on July 19, 2022. She was a graduate of Central High School Class of 1967. Janice dedicated her entire adult life to public service as a police officer. She retired from the Chattanooga Police Department, the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department and the Hamilton County District Attorney’s Office. She was very proud of her years of service. She attained the rank of sergeant while employed with CPD and she served as the public information officer with HCSD. While with the DA’s office she served as an Investigator. Janice was a member of Mile Straight Baptist Church in Soddy Daisy. She was also a past member of the Lions Club. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents John and Lorene White, and a brother Jerry White.
Left behind to cherish Janice’s memory is her daughter and son-in-law, Melissa Randolph-Taylor and Joe Taylor, grandchildren Maddie and Mason Randolph, brothers Tommy (Diane) White and David White, several nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins and many life-long friends.
A Celebration of Janice’s Life will be held at 2:00 pm graveside in the Lakewood West Memory Gardens in Lookout Valley on Monday July 25, 2022 with Darryl Smith officiating. The family will receive friends at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home prior to the service on Monday from 11 am to 1 pm.
It is requested in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions in Janice’s memory be made to Hospice of Chattanooga or to the American Heart Association.
