Janelle was born in Villa Rica Georgia in 1927, but grew up in Tallapoosa, Georgia graduating at the top of her class from Tallapoosa High School. She attended Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville Georgia earning a BS with a Major in both Chemistry and Biology. After graduation, she was employed for eleven years as a research assistant in the Chemistry Department at Georgia Tech.
She moved with her husband and children to Chattanooga in 1958. She taught Chemistry for one year at City High School, ‘60-’61. She finished her professional career with Dixie Yarns after 25 years in Technical Development.
Janelle was married for 67 years to her childhood sweetheart, the late Marshall A. Hildebrand Jr. Together they raised and are survived by 5 children: Marshall III - Skip (Vicki), Sandy McBrayer (Bill), David Hildebrand (Sandra), Jim Hildebrand (Connie), and Sherri Tanner (John). She also leaves 10 grandchildren: Scott Hildebrand, Stacy McBrayer Molander, Lauren McBrayer Miller, Angie Hildebrand Cosby, Matthew Hildebrand, Jay Hildebrand, Anna Hildebrand Guessetto, Sarah Tanner, Nicole Tanner, and Jackson Tanner; 17 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; a niece, Dorothy Francis Dillard (Marvin); and a nephew, Mitchell Scott Carnes (Cindy).
She was a member, since 1958, of Brainerd Methodist Church where she attended the Friendship Sunday School Class. She served as a Girl Scout leader, a Church Camp Counselor, and a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts. She enjoyed playing golf, reading, and working in the yard. She was selfless, encouraging, wise, practical, frugal, disciplined, determined, and independent; and she encouraged others to be likewise.
There will be a private graveside service at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta, Ga.
