Dr. James G. Ware

Dr. James G. Ware, 83, of Chattanooga passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2013. Born August 19, 1929 in Baltimore, Maryland, he was a son of the late Robert Dwight and Varina Ann Cook Ware. He was preceded in death by his wife, of 44 years, Zola Garrison Ware and a brother Dr. John Ware. Dr. Ware, the son and grandson of a Methodist minister, was a member of the Brainerd United Methodist Church and the Friendship Sunday School Class. He pursued several lifelong passions: music, education, travel, Kiwanis, and his church. He was a soloist and sang in a church choir for 70 years. He was a member of Kiwanis for 40 years and served as Governor for the Kentucky - Tennessee District from 1996-1997. He emceed the Travelogue at the Memorial Auditorium for many years. Having received his PhD from Peabody Vanderbilt University, Dr. Ware taught math at The McCallie School. He taught math at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga for 30 years, where served as the Math Department head for 20 years and established the James G. Ware Mathematics Education Award. He loved to travel and led tours and traveled to all parts of the world for 50 years.

Survivors include his daughter Aimee Hammond, her husband David and a grandson Philip Hammond.

Funeral service will be 1:30 Sunday, March 10, 2013 at the Brainerd United Methodist Church, with Reverend Dennis Flaugher officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 3-5 and 6:30-8 at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
