James Ewing Ballard Jr.

James Ewing Ballard, Jr., 67 of Lookout Mountain passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2022. He was a graduate of McCallie School class of 1973, attended Furman University on a wrestling scholarship and graduated from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture. Mr. Ballard was the owner of Ballard Landscapes and designed the flowers and landscaping around the Honors Golf Course as well as many other projects. He loved to quail hunt and fish with Pat and Allen.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Ewing Ballard, Sr. and Anne Mathes Ballard as well as his brother, Stuart Ballard.

Survivors include his wife, Debbie Thompson Ballard; daughter, Catherine Lamar (Arthur) Parry; sons, James Ewing (Mary) Ballard, III and Alexander Mathes (Caitlin) Ballard; four grandchildren, Jayme Ballard, Madeline Parry, Eva Ballard and Virginia Ballard; siblings, Lolly (Dan) Durant, Arthur Ballard and Abbie (Jay) Brooks; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 11 – 1 PM Saturday, March 19, 2022 at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road, East Ridge, TN. A private graveside service will follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center 1515 Holcombe Blvd. Houston, TX 77030.
