Geraldine Amelia Witt

Lt. Commander Geraldine Amelia Witt (RET) passed away February 7, 2018 in a local Chattanooga hospital. Geraldine was born in Chattanooga on April 6, 1930 to the late Walter Andrew and Hazel Wilkinson Witt.

Geraldine attended the University of Chattanooga and graduated with a BS degree. After several years of teaching Geraldine joined the Navy and retired with 20+ years of service with a rank of Lt. Commander.

After retiring from the Navy, Geraldine went back to school and received an RN degree. After many years of service at Memorial Hospital she retired to care for her mother. She was a lifelong member of Brainerd United Methodist Church.

Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Andrew Witt who also served in the Navy.

Left behind to cherish Geraldine’s memory are her loving sister, Bo; brothers, Raymond Witt; Houston, TX., and Hazen and Richard Witt, both of Chattanooga, TN., she also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and her dog, Dolly.

A graveside service will be held on Monday February 12, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. in the Chattanooga National Cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends in the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home from 11-1pm also on Monday.
