Edward F. “Eddie” Kemper, 87, of Chattanooga passed away Saturday, August 20, 2022. He graduated from Chattanooga Central High School in 1953 and later from Journeyman Apprentice Technical College in 1956. He was an active member of Jones Memorial United Methodist Church since 1960. He was a member of the Pioneer Sunday School class and the Seekers class. He was also a Trustee, an Usher and a Greeter. Ed was very involved in United Methodist Men where he received the Man of the Year award twice. For many years he was very involved in the church barbeque and was instrumental in the distribution of children’s coats.
Ed was a lover of all kinds of music. He enjoyed the handbell choir, church choir, soloists, and the praise team. He was always ready with an “Amen” for the choir. He especially loved sitting in his recliner listening to Nancy play the piano.
Ed was a member of the IBEW for 67 years as a journeyman electrician. He retired from NABCO after working there for 30 years. He was a volunteer at the Community Kitchen from 1990 to 2020. He was an avid Tennessee Volunteer fan.
Most of all Eddie loved his family and was a loyal and dedicated husband and father.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Francis and Barbara Peckinpaugh Kemper; his sisters, Anna Bridges and Dorothy Tally; and a grandson, Alex Moody.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Nancy Magette Kemper; children, Edward (Kathy) Kemper, Beth (Alan) Morris and Linda (Bryan) Quintrell; eleven grandchildren, Shannon (Ray) Knight, Aaron (Courtney) Kemper, Korey Kemper, Graeme (Morgan) Morris, Kelsey (Joshua) Morris, Tanner Morris, Jackson Kemper, Bradley Kemper, Kayla (Ben) Castle, Taylor (Molly) Quintrell and Brylee Quintrell; eight great-grandchildren, Sara, Addy, Cooper, Clara Cate and Grayson Knight, Lucas and Amelia Kemper, and Dylan Collins; other close relatives, Becky Lipscomb and Jimmie (Charles) King; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Friday, August 26, 2022 at Jones Memorial United Methodist Church 4131 Ringgold Road, East Ridge, TN with the Rev. Larry Dial and the Rev. Natalie Smart officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens, East. The family will receive friends from 4-8 PM Thursday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road, East Ridge, TN and from 10-11AM Friday at the church.
