David Sherwin Anderson, Sr., 81 of Signal Mountain went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 13, 2017. Sherwin was a member and Deacon at Ridgedale Baptist Church, director of the Covenant Sunday School Class for 20 years and a founding member of the Cornerstone Sunday School Class. He was a graduate of Central High School class of 1954 where he played football under coach Red Etter. He also Studied at Tennessee Tech. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps Reserve and was retired from The William Wrigley Company after 35 years of service. Sherwin was a member of Gideons International and a former member of Brainerd Kiwanis Club. He was known for his love of people. His 20 years of retirement were well spent visiting hospitals and sick friends, playing golf, enjoying his grandchildren and playing on his farm “Green Acres” in Flat Rock, Alabama.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter V. and Cordie D. Warfield Anderson and two brothers, Ormand Anderson and Glendon Anderson.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 61 years, Barbara Schrader Anderson; son, David (Rhonda) Sherwin Anderson, Jr.; daughter, Tracy Anderson (Mark) Maddox; four grandchildren, Devin Anderson (Drew) Marshall, David Sherwin Anderson, III, Mabry Grace Maddox and Ruby Marie Maddox; two sisters, Sandra Atkinson and Janelle Harris; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 4 PM Sunday, September 17 at Ridgedale Baptist Church with Dr. Doug Plumlee officiating. The Covenant Sunday School Class and the Cornerstone Sunday School Class will be honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 2PM until the hour of the service and there will be a reception following the service. Burial will be at 12 PM CDT on Monday at New Hope Cemetery in Rosalie, Alabama.
