Barbara Ruth Quarles Bates, 83, of East Ridge passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2019 in a local hospital. She was a member of East Lake Baptist Church which merged with East Ridge Baptist Church. Barbara loved to bake and sew and showered her friends and family with gifts she had made. Family was her biggest passion. Barbara was a self-employed Private Duty Nurse having received her LPN from Memorial Hospital. In more recent years, she served as Operations Manager of Home Comforts.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Alfred Quarles and her parents, Emmett and Willa Quarles.
Her family includes her husband, Jack Bates; five children, Steve and Connee Bates, Linda and Mike Gilley, David and Debbie Bates, Peggy and Jesse Taylor and Willa and Greg Gates; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews, Terri, Tina, Lee Ann and Emmett.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM Saturday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road with the Rev. Mike Steele officiating. Private burial will follow the service. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 12 – 2:30 PM at the funeral home.
