Alexander Stott (“Scotty”) Gordon of Bluffton, SC, went to be with his Lord on November 30, 2015 at age 95. He was born on December 24, 1919 in Atlanta, Georgia. He was the eldest son of Alexander Gordon of Peterhead, Scotland, and Ada Nelson Gordon of Flovilla, Georgia. He had five brothers and sisters: Betty, John, James (“Jim”), Charles (“Charlie”), and Mary. He graduated from Russell High School in Hapeville, Georgia, and attended Georgia State College.
He went to work for Delta Airlines on January 5, 1941 and married Kathleen “Kitty” Maxwell Gordon on April 18, 1941. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary together. He served as a combat infantryman in the Battle of The Bulge, and earned the coveted Combat Infantryman's Badge.
He was with Delta for 52 years. He retired in 1993 as Delta's Manager of Excess Sales and Materials. His major contribution was selling Delta's older aircraft when they were replaced with newer planes. He helped Delta grow from a regional carrier to a world-wide major airline.
He was a man of deep, simple Christian faith, which he tried faithfully and lovingly to share with the people he met. He was very active in several churches, including Hapeville Presbyterian, Colonial Hills Baptist, and First Baptist of Forest Park. He served in many capacities, including as an usher, deacon, leader of Christian Service Brigade, and choir member.
All of his life he strove to be considerate, loving, and grateful, to pray for others, and to bear witness to the power and love of Christ. He set an example of strength, courage, integrity, and perseverance.
He is survived by his son, David, his daughter-in-law, Melodye, his brother John, his sisters-in-law Margie and Bea, nieces Nancy and Gina, and nephews Robert, David, Jim, Jeff, Doug, Mark, Joel, and Andy. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. Services will be at Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home, East Point, Georgia ( (404) 761-1138) at 11 am Wednesday, December 9th, with visitation 6-8 pm, December 8th. Interment will be at College Park Cemetery, College Park, Georgia. Memorials may be made to Campus Crusade for Christ.
