He was born March 8, 1935 in Kewanee, IL to Giles and Helen “Daisy” (Dumas) Hay. He attended Kewanee High School then graduated from Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa.
Tom was in the United States Army reserves prior to starting his career in the insurance field. He was an independent insurance agent and loved his work. He was the owner of East Peoria Insurance Agency, Inc., Indemnity Agency, Inc. and Benefits, Inc. He was a member of the Million Dollar Round Table for many years having sold at least one million dollars of life insurance annually.
A great influence in his life was his grandfather, Marion L. Hay, who took him on many trips to search and excavate for Indian arrowheads and artifacts. Tom donated his collection to Cornell College.
Tom is survived by his wife, Jean. Three sons: Scott Hay, Bruce (Luann) Hay, and Todd Harrison all of Peoria. Also surviving are five granddaughters: Megan Hay, Kelsey Hay, Marissa Hay, Karsyn Hay and Erika Harrison, two great-granddaughters: Olivia Pfister and Aria Wernsman. His sister, Janet (George) Iler of Gurnee, IL, survives him along with a niece, Julie Davis. Several aunts and cousins also survive as well as his mother-in-law, Mickey Cochran.
Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday March 8, 2014 at Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria with Military Honors.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the Apostolic Christian Restmor in Morton.
