Richard was born on August 25, 1930 in Peoria, the son of Frank and Ruth (Robinson) Resler. He married Marjorie A. Horton on May 25, 1952, she survives. He was preceded in death by his Parents, one Brother and one Son in Law.
He is survived by his wife, Marge, of 62 years, and four children, Bruce (Helen) Resler of Peoria, Wendy Pierce of Frederick, MD, Brad Resler of Chillicothe, Valerie (Todd) Briggs of East Peoria, 3 Grandchildren, Ian Gingrich of Point of Rocks, MD, Jessica Resler of Chicago, and Haley Pierce of Frederick, MD, one step brother Stephen (Sandy) Gasparovich of Peoria, and his stepmother, Margaret Greiner of Peoria.
Richard worked at TP&W Railroad prior to and after military duty with the US Navy during the Korean War. He served as an Engine Man, 1st Class on the LST 503. He retired from Carpenters Local 183 in 1994 after 37 years of active carpentry as a superintendent. For several years, he was in charge of and taught carpentry at Illinois Central College, through the Carpenters Local 183 apprenticeship program.
Richard enjoyed hunting and fishing with all of his special buddies, his sons, and daughter. He loved spending time boating, camping and in general being an outdoorsman. Dick was an active member of multiple chapters of Izaak Walton League of America for 55 years.
The family would like to thank the East Peoria Fresenius Dialysis Center, The Central Illinois Agency on Aging, his wonderful physicians, Dr. Radee and Kupfer, Dr. Sparrow, Dr. Morton and the staff and physical therapists at Riverview ManorCare, and the excellent nurses he had at his most recent stay at OSF, especially Abbie and Danielle. The family would also like to thank Sam, his well-loved homecare giver.
Cremation rites will be accorded.
A celebration of life will be held from 5-7 PM, Friday, August 22, 2014 at Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria. US Navy Military honors will be held at 7 PM.
