He was born February 20, 1946 in Peoria, the son of Ellery and Virginia Fulton Livings Lay. He married Phyllis Cox on May 1, 1971.
Randy is survived by his wife of forty-five years; his children, Kris (Jose) Garcia of Terra Haute, IN, Kerri (Brian) Viets of Chillicothe, Eric (Rebecca) Lay of St. Louis, MO, Erin (David) Fortune of East Peoria; nine grandchildren, Zoe, Rileigh, and Collin Fortune, Corrin and Cameron Viets, Kendall and Gavin Lay, Tony and Sara Garcia; and three sisters, Bettie (Doug) Crawford of Punta Gorda, FL, Bobbie (Jack) Nack of Ft. Myers, FL, Valerie (Earl) Dunham of Edina, MN.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Randy was a 1964 graduate of Peoria Central High School where he was a class officer all four years. He graduated Eureka College in 1968, and belonged to the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. Randy also was a graduate of Real Estate Institute with G.R.I. designation. He was a Real Estate Broker for 37 years.
He was a Supervisor for the Real Estate Unit at CILCO for twenty-five years. He then worked for Illinois Department of Transportation for eleven years, retiring as a Senior Real Estate Agent.
Randy was a Past President of International Right of Way Association, Illinois Chapter 12. He held senior designation in real estate of SRWA.
He coached Little League and Biddy Basketball for his son’s team in East Peoria, for 7 years.
Randy was an avid golfer, bowled in several leagues, last on CILCO League. He loved the Northwoods of Wisconsin always after the elusive Musky. His greatest joy was spending time with family and friends in God’s country.
He is a great-great-grandson of Josiah and Augusta Fulton. Josiah came to Peoria in April 1819, one of the six American settlers who founded American Peoria. The decedents of Josiah and Augusta Fulton are the only family of the original six settlers that have remained in Peoria to this time.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at the Pekin First Church of the Nazarene. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 25, 2017 from 4-7:00pm and one hour prior to services also at the church. Rev Lloyd Brock will officiate.
Burial will be in Fondulac Township Cemetery.
