He was born November 26, 1935, in Moline, IL to Octaf and Monique (Vande Voorde) Van De Wiele. He married Betty J. Willard on July 3, 1968. She passed away November 4, 2010 in Peoria. He was also preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Denise Van De Wiele, and one brother, Donald Van De Wiele.
Survivors include one daughter, Monique (John) Mitalovich of St. Louis, Missouri, one son, Jeff (Kristi) Van De Wiele, eight grandchildren: Sarah, Cody, Adam, Amber, Shawna, Alex, James, and Alyssa. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren: Harley, Rick, Cameron, Ella, Bradley, Sage, Noah, and one niece and three nephews.
Vandy was a United States Army veteran. Following his time in the military he was a Supervisor for the State of Illinois Rehabilitation Services retiring in 1989.
He was a member of the Peoria Elks Lodge, Arrowhead Country Club, and was very proud of the fact he hit a hole in one while wintering in Texas at the age of 84.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be Saturday, November 23, 2024 at 11 am at the Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services.
Burial will be in Fondulac Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St Jude Midwest Affiliate.
