He was born October 17, 1949 in Streator, IL to Charles and Phyllis Nicklin (both deceased). Nick was preceded in death by his sister Janice "Chuck" Schaibley and has one surviving brother and sister-in-law, John "Bill" and Mardi Nicklin.
Nick Graduated from Chillicothe Public High School in 1968 and married the love of his life, Clairann, in 1982. Together, they raised their daughter, Megan. Megan and her husband, David, gave Nick four grandsons he loved with everything he had - David Jr., Landen, Owen, and Briggs. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Nick served in Vietnam from 1969-1970 as an SP5 in the United States Army. He also served on the Chillicothe Police Department , and was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
Nick touched many hearts during his time on Earth and anyone wishing to celebrate his life is welcome to at his visitation and/or Funeral. A visitation will be on Thursday, October 27, 2022 from 5 to 7 pm at Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria. A Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 28, 2022 with visitation one hour prior to the service at the St. Monica Catholic Church in East Peoria. Burial will follow the service at Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria. Remmert Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Nick asked that anyone who attends come as they are - specifically no suits and ties. It has been asked by Nick that any former and current Midwest Gambler's Baseball players wear their jersey, spirit wear, or simply blue/orange. In lieu of flowers, Nick's family is asking for donations to help cover funeral expenses. Any donations can be sent to the venmo @nicknclairy.
