He was born Aug. 28, 1950 in Redbud, IL. He married Leona Goujon Sep. 26, 1970 in Peoria. She survives along with one daughter, Mary (Jim) Johnson of Bettendorf, IA, one son, Sam Sleister of Creve Coeur, four granddaughters: Molly, Maggie, Annie and Josie Johnson, two sisters: Mickey Sleister of Peoria, Stephanie (Dave) Stonecipher of Hanna City, and one brother-in-law, Fred George of East Peoria.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Norma and Mike Sleister, and favorite sister-in-law, Mary George.
He served in the Army Reserves from 1969 to 1975.
Gary was a member of Carpenters Local 183 for 43 years. He was currently working for C.P.I of the Midwest as a Project Superintendent. Gary previously worked as a Project Superintendent for C. Iber & Sons, MA Mortenson, and Core Construction. He was a member of the Midwest Gun Collectors Club and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Peoria.
Gary was a loving and kind husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. He cherished his family and dedicated his life to their well being.
A Funeral Mass will be Thursday Nov. 21, 2013 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Peoria. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria. Additional visitation will be one hour prior to the services on Thursday at church.
Burial will be in Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria.
