Theresa Marie Schmidt

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Theresa Marie Schmidt, a beloved daughter, sister, mother, and grandma, who departed from this world on November 7th, 2023. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering dedication to her family.

Theresa was born on March 31, 1966 in Saginaw, Michigan, the daughter of Joseph Barnovitz and Ruth Milbrant. Theresa attended Hemlock Public Schools before studying Business in Legal Secretarial Science at Delta College.

Theresa and her friends Rose Judd, Bridget Kerr, Nora Lamping, and Tina Jerry were practically inseparable throughout their lives. From grade school besties to lady’s spa days and camping trips, they were together through it all.

Theresa took on the role of a stay-at-home mom and teacher to her children; Andrew and Julia. She cared for her children, schooled them, and taught them Christian values they would carry with them throughout their lives.

Beyond her family life, Theresa was also known for her involvement in the community. She volunteered her time and energy to various local organizations, including Loaves and Fishes, Operation Christmas Child, Big Brother Big Sister, and she co-founded the Mid-Michigan Diaper Bank, which provides a reliable and adequate supply of baby diapers and adult supplies to families in need in greater Lansing, Michigan.

Theresa was preceded in death by her grandparents Frank and Elizabeth Carpenter and John and Hortense Barnovitz, her father Joseph James Barnovitz, and her brother-in-law Andy Bailey. Theresa is survived by her mother Ruth (Cliff) Milbrant; siblings Jerilyn Barnovitz, Jay Milbrant, Barbara Numerich, Debra Bailey, Jeff Barnovitz, Tammy Barnovitz; children Andrew (Meredith) Brandenburger and Julia Schmidt; grandchildren Madison Brandenburger and Oliver Brandenburger; nieces Nichole Numerich, Megan Stott, Brooke Bailey; nephews Brandon Numerich, Trevor Numerich, Drew Bailey, and Tyler Stott.

A visitation for Theresa will be held at 12:00 on November 11th at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 East Grand River Ave, East Lansing, MI 48823. A funeral service will immediately follow at 1:00.
