A funeral service will be held Friday, January 13, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, East Lansing with Pastor Dean Gardner officiating. There will be visitation on Friday from 11 AM until time of service at the funeral home.
Randy was born on April 18, 1962 in Des Moines, Iowa to Richard and Delores (Jodway) Davis. He was a 1980 graduate of Williamston High School. Randy hired into the city of Lansing in 1995, working in the Transportation Division and then transferred to the Lansing Police Department in 1996, working in central records and the special operations section until his retirement in 2017. Randy, alias “Kong”, also received the Departmental Unit Commendation award in 2004 and was given the Police Employee of the Year award in 2005.
Randy also served as a Notary Public and was an Ingham County skywarn spotter.
Randy was a member of Perry Assembly of God for over 30 years, serving the church as a deacon, children’s teacher, and headed up various outreaches and ministries. Randy enjoyed playing bass guitar on the worship team. He also helped City of Hope Church in Lansing with their feeding program.
Randy loved football and rooting on his favorite teams (Michigan State and the Indianapolis Colts). He loved collecting DC and Marvel comic books and going to comic conventions with his good friend Matt. Randy was a very talented artist and also enjoyed making jewelry and balloon animals. He loved going to craft bazaars and shopping.
He loved to plan parties and cooking and enjoyed getting together with his friends, especially at Christmas. Randy loved to make people laugh. His quick wit and humor will be sorely missed.
A special thank you to all Randy’s caregivers at MediLodge who became like family to him.
Randy is survived by his “adopted” family Dean, Robin, Heather, Tiffany Gardner, and Cindy Caine. He also leaves behind many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Bob Davis, and close friends Les Winnick and Tim Caine.
