Peter Johnson, loving husband, father and friend, passed away March 11, 2018. Pete was born on May 9, 1958 in Highland Park, Michigan. He met the love of his life, “his person”, Kimberly Turner when both were in college. He devoted his working life to the family business, Halmich Sod Nursery. Pete was a “quiet perpetual host” to numerous family and friends with many celebrations around the pool with Pete grilling. If Pete wasn’t cooking, you could catch him reading massive novels, doing crossword puzzles or watching MSU sports. He also enjoyed participating in his sons’ many activities, golfing, and boating on his beloved Walloon Lake.
Pete is survived by his wife of 37 years, Kim; sons, Steven and Brian (Leah; Mariah, Michaelah, and Dakota); parents, Wilbur and Kathryn Johnson; sister, Amy (Nick) Altiero, brother, David (Joan) Johnson; father-in-law, Lester (Sandie) Turner; sisters-in-law, Michele (David) Binkley and Renee Turner; brothers-in-law, Mark (Libby) Turner, Jeffrey (Juliet) Turner, and Derek Turner. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Carol Turner. His trusty sidekick, Cooper, misses him greatly.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, March 16, 2018, at 2:00 P.M. at St. John Church and Student Center, 327 M.A.C. Ave., East Lansing. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-8 at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, 1730 E. Grand River Ave., East Lansing and also one hour prior to the Mass at the church.
