Michael Alan Waters

Age 61, died Saturday, January 14, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer. Mike was born August 3, 1955 in Frankfort, Michigan to Norman and Patricia (Kibby) Waters. He grew up in Frankfort, graduated from Frankfort High School and went on to attend Flint Barber School. After working for a short time as a barber in Traverse City, Mike moved to East Lansing, where he began working at Campus Barbers. Campus Barbers was his home away from home for over 35 years. Mike loved northern Michigan and was an avid outdoorsman. He loved fishing, hunting, boating and gardening. He also loved attending sports events and most of all, cheering on the Spartans. Mike had an amazing sense of humor and was well known as the family prankster at all family gatherings. His biggest pride and joy, though, was his family. He and his wife Kathleen were married for 34 years. Together, they had two children who Mike loved to talk about, Lindsey (Matthew) Swain and Alan Waters. He loved to brag about and spoil his two precious grandsons, Brody and Luke Swain. Mike also leaves behind his two sisters, Ellen (Stewart) Hamilton and Trish (Dave) Smeltzer, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. We hold dear loving memories and find comfort knowing that Mike is no longer suffering and is reunited with his parents; brother, David, grandparents and uncle; as well as many others. We know he will forever hold us in his care. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 11:30am at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, with Mike’s dear friend, Rev. Fr. Mark Inglot as Celebrant. Burial will take place at a later date at Crystal Lake Township North. The family will receive friends Friday, January 20, 2017, 5-8pm, at the Gorsline Runciman East Lansing Chapel, where a scripture service will be held at 7:30pm.
