Michael Vernon Smith

He was born in Corpus Christi, Texas, in 1952 to Rear Admiral Vernon Charles Smith (Ret.) and Katherine Elaine (St. Louis) Smith. Because of his father’s military service, Michael had the opportunity to live and attend school in many places, both in and outside of the United States, as he grew up.

Michael is remembered for being kind, gentle and always willing to go out of his way to help others. He was strong in his faith, and an example to many. He had a dry sense of humor that popped up at the most unexpected times. He was a man of few words, but the things he did say always made an impact.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Katherine (St. Louis) and Vernon Smith. He is survived by his spouse, Cheryl (Zentmyer) Smith; his children, Angela (Matthew) Circle, Justin (Kelley) Zielinski, Emily (Allen) Scheck, Daisy Smith, and his two siblings, Cathy Bandy and Steven (Cathy) Smith. He also leaves behind 8 grandchildren, Dylan (Tessa) Feliciano, Mason (Courtney) Wirt, Logan (Monique) Circle, Madelyn Circle, Hazel Scheck, Penny Scheck, Sydney Zielinski and 5 great grandchildren, Aaron Feliciano, Alexander Feliciano, Athena Feliciano, Caroline Wirt, and Ella Wirt.

Visitation will be on Monday, April 15th, 6:00-8:00 pm at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, 1730 E Grand River, East Lansing, Michigan. Funeral Services will be on Tuesday, April 16th, 11:00 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 431 E Saginaw St, East Lansing, Michigan. Donations to the VFW Nation Home, 3573 S Waverly Rd, Eaton Rapids, MI 48827, would be greatly appreciated in lieu of flowers.
