John Donald Molloy, age 87, of Okemos, Michigan passed away on Tuesday March 27, 2018. John was born January 1, 1931, in Cincinnati, OH, to Francis and Frances Molloy and grew up during the depression. He was the eldest of three boys; his brothers were Robert and Ronald. He ran track and played baseball in his youth. He was the first of his family to attend college, worked to pay his own way through school, and earned a PhD in political science. After working at the Cincinnati Enquirer for 12 years, he taught at Michigan State University for 47 years. During that time he took a one year sabbatical and taught journalism at Northwestern University. He was the author of at least five books on political science and used them in his classes. John was devoted to his family, friends, and church (St. Thomas Aquinas). He was always there for his family. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and active as a Board Member with the Michigan State University "State News". He enjoyed playing and watching golf and was an avid baseball fan. He enjoyed sharing his baseball skills and knowledge with his grandsons. His favorite team was the Cincinnati Reds. John also enjoyed watching and cheering on the Michigan State University football and basketball teams.
John is survived by his wife Carol, two daughters, Mary Molloy and Susan North/Raymond, two grandsons, Thomas North and Daniel North/Brittany, three great-grandchildren, Cora Lisabeth North, Andrew North, and Addison North, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2018 beginning at 4 p.m. at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes East Lansing Chapel, 1730 E. Grand River Ave., East Lansing, MI with Rev. Mark Inglot officiating. The family will receive visitors beginning at 3 p.m. at the funeral home and guests are invited to a reception following the service.
