Greg Alan Humbert, age 70, of Okemos, Michigan passed away on Saturday, October 1, 2022. Greg was born August 2, 1952 in Fort Wayne, Indiana to Richard and Mary Lou Humbert. Greg was an exceptional musician who began playing keyboard at only 8 years old. He began his paid music career at 13 years old, performing in bands before going to Purdue University to study Musical Theory. He traveled through more than fifteen states as a road musician before settling in East Lansing, Michigan and starting a family. Greg then studied Mechanical Engineering at LCC and was offered a full scholarship to MSU. It was his devotion to his family that led to him beginning his 20+ year career at the Board of Water and Light.
In 1995 Greg met his future wife, Linda Maria Stober. His quiet gentleness and elegant demeanor attracted Linda right away and they were married six months later in March of 1996.
Greg was an absolutely brilliant man. Aside from being a musician, he painted both privately and commercially, sculpted wood, could fix anything, and there were no limitations to what he could create. He loved hiking and being outdoors. He traveled the world over, but truly loved the White Mountains in New Hampshire and Pictured Rocks in Northern Michigan. His favorite hiking companions were his dogs, Popeye and Tuko. Greg's interest in nature was the foundation for his overall outlook on life: There is beauty in everything and a deeply held respect for all life- people, animals, and the Earth.
Greg will be missed for his bright blue eyes, his steadfastness, and his ability to make things around him more beautiful. He will be dearly missed by his wife, Linda; his much loved daughter, Rachel (John) Dugan; his three grandchildren, Tonisty (Ron) Keener, John Dugan V, and Clayton Dugan; 2 great grandchildren; and his brother, Randy (Susan) Humbert. Sister in law and dear friend Lisa Taylor. Brother in law and fellow Spartan fan Steven Stober.
A visitation for Greg will be held on Sunday, October 16th at 2 PM with a memorial service following at 3 PM at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 East Grand River Ave, East Lansing, MI 48823.
Memorial contributions in Greg's name may be made to the Capital Area Humane Society.
