Gerald Ludden, our beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away peacefully February 1, 2017 at the age of 79 surrounded by his loving family. Born to the late Kathryn and Frank Ludden of Quincy, IL.
Gerald received his PHD in mathematics from Notre Dame University and then taught at MSU for 50 years. He helped start the Champs Program at MSU, bringing area middle and high school students to MSU for an accelerated math program. Michigan State Athletics provided many special memories, he held season football tickets for 50 years and loved going to MSU football and hockey games with his friends. He was also an active member of the St Thomas Aquinas Parish for 50 years, where he taught CCD for 13 years. Jerry’s passions in life included attending all of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren’s sporting events, which led to over 35 years of volunteering for youth hockey and throughout the years held positions including team manager for his sons hockey teams, president of the local hockey association (GLAHA), president of Michigan Amateur Hockey Association (MAHA). He also enjoyed playing cards with his card club. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Ken Ludden. Surviving to cherish his memory is his beloved wife Virginia Ludden; his children, Greg Ludden of Haslett, Debbie (Chris) Westjohn of East Lansing and Mike (Jam) Ludden of Denver; grandchildren, Sarah Carter, Zoie Smith, Mikaela and Marissa Ludden; great-grandchildren, Vincent and Rodger Carter; loving sister, Mary Jane Johnston and special cousin Janet Abolt.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 955 Alton Rd., East Lansing. The family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 PM on Monday, February 6th at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 East Grand River Ave., East Lansing, with a rosary at 7 PM and visitation 1 hour prior to mass at the church. The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to all the nurses, doctors and staff at Sparrow Hospital for all the kindness they extended to Jerry.
