Frances Anne (Schultz) Bradley of East Lansing, Michigan, passed away Friday, October 6, 2024 at the age of 94. Fran was born January 24, 1930 in Detroit, Michigan, to Clacy and Katherine McNary. She grew up in Rosedale Park, MI and spent her summers at the family cottage on Union Lake, MI. Fran, who was gifted with a beautiful singing voice, started her music career in her church choir and the glee club at Redford High School. She majored in music at Stephens College and Michigan State University where she developed her classical singing voice.
At MSU, Fran met and married Jim Schultz with whom she had four children. Jim and Fran settled in nearby Okemos where they raised their children, and Fran continued with her music. She sang in various operas and musicals in the Lansing area as well as in the choir at The People’s Church. She also volunteered at senior citizens centers, playing the piano and leading sing-alongs even into her 80’s. Most importantly, Fran gave the joy of music to her children. Whether riding in the car, washing the dishes or celebrating holidays, singing together was always a family tradition.
In 1976, Fran married Robert Bradley. They had many happy years together and provided the family with wonderful memories at their home on Lake Lansing, MI, and later in Venice, Florida. Due to failing health in their later years, the couple returned to Michigan to be near family.
Fran is predeceased by Robert Bradley, her husband of 40 years, and her brothers, Richard and Edward McNary. She is survived by her four children, Kimberlee (Schultz) Rosen (Donny) of Cape Coral, FL, Susan (Schultz) Patrick (Doug) of Bath, MI, KayCee (Schultz) Silva (Daniel) of San Antonio, TX and Jim Schultz (Cindi) of Rossford, OH. Fran also leaves 5 grandchildren and 9 great-children, nephews and nieces and including blended families, 7 more grandchildren and 14 great-children.
Fran’s positive, cheerful attitude brightened up the lives of those around her to the end. Two days before she passed, she woke up, smiled and said, “Nice day”.
The family would like to thank all those who compassionately cared for Fran during the last five years. Your kindness and love means a great deal to the family.
A private memorial service for the family will be held at a later date.
