August 25th,1933 in Chicago, Illinois to Erwin Herman Johann and Katherine (Weiher) Scheck.
Elaine grew up on the Southside of Chicago and graduated from Elk Rapids Rural Agricultural
High School in 1951. It was in Elk Rapids and Torch Lake that she met her future husband,
Frederick Thornton Fink (d. 2013). They were married for fifty-nine years.
Elaine earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences from Michigan State University in
1967. Upon graduating, Elaine worked in a variety of capacities at MSU, including in the
Chemistry Lab and The College of Veterinary Medicine. Of her many gifts, talents, and
hobbies, her greatest passion was for raising and caring for livestock, including horses, sheep,
and especially goats. She was a member of both the American and Michigan Dairy
Associations, and maintained a nationally recognized herd of American Saanens.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, unnamed Baby Boy Fink, her
brother Al, and her grandson, Spencer. She is survived by her two sons, Russ (Sandy) Fink of
Naperville, Illinois, and Eric (Nancy) Fink of East Lansing; her grandchildren, Trevor (Maddie)
Fink, Katelyn, Sarah (Mike) Kuebler, Brian (Sarah) Fink, and Kevin (Kailey) Fink; and her great-grandchildren: Maximilian, Macy, Miles, Edith, Gabriel, Thomas, Kolbe and Kinslee.
Elaine was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church, where she was a long-time member of
the altar society; she also enjoyed attending Bible Studies and prayer groups. A memorial
service will be held at Ascension Lutheran Church, 2780 Haslett Rd., East Lansing MI, 48823,
at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, August 7th. The family will greet friends and relatives at a
reception in the Church following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made either to Ascension
Lutheran Church or the Michigan 4-H. The family is being served by Gorsline Runciman
