Carol Jean Molloy, age 89, of Okemos, Michigan passed away on Saturday, May 29, 2021. She was born April 2, 1932 in Newark, OH, the daughter of John and Luella (Gebhart) Beckman. She spent her early years on a farm with her pet chicken, Nibby. She graduated from University of Cincinnati in 1954 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. While she was a student, she met her husband, John Molloy, and they married on June 6, 1959. Carol was in charge of mail and telephone shopping at Shillito's Department Store in Cincinnati for several years and was a floor supervisor at Gimbel's Department Store in Milwaukee.
Carol was a stay at home mom to two daughters, Mary and Susan. She was a Girl Scout Leader and had lifetime membership. She enjoyed playing volleyball and bridge. She went back to college at University of Michigan in 1981, graduating in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science degree. Carol worked as a Draftsman for an architect before taking a job with the State of Michigan DNR, where she designed buildings.
Following retirement she took care of her mother, Luella Beckman, who passed away in 2006. She volunteered as a tutor for The Reading People, teaching English as a second language, and enjoyed spending time at the Okemos Senior Center where she played cards and participated in exercise classes and lunches. She loved spending time with and shopping for gifts for her family.
Surviving are her daughters, Mary Molloy and Susan (Ray) North; grandchildren, Thomas North and Daniel (Brittany) North; great-grandchildren, Cora North, Andrew North, Addison North, and a fourth on the way. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Molloy, on March 27, 2018.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm July 3, 2021 at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes East Chapel.
