Passed away on January 22, 2014 at the age of 64 after a long battle with melanoma. He was born July 3, 1949 in Muskegon and married Rhonda Roemke on June 29, 1974. He was a wonderful provider and never missed an opportunity to support his family at all of their various activities and events.
Bob graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. He earned his PE license and later went on to obtain his MBA from the University of Michigan. He retired from Consumers Energy last year after nearly 41 years of service.
Bob loved to be active and was an avid runner in his adult years inspiring an entire family of runners. Other favorite pastimes included playing trumpet, investigating and mastering new technologies, and photography. He was the photographer at most events, thereby forever preserving so many wonderful memories for his family and friends. He was also an active member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Haslett serving in many different capacities throughout the years.
Bob was preceded in death by his mother, Joyce Fishel and brother, Brian Fishel. He is survived by his wife Rhonda; daughters Julie (Mike) and Amy; sons Scott (Heather) and Adam (Erica); grand children Olivia, Elijah and Isabella; father, Emanuel; brothers Duane (Pat), Jim (Mary), and Chuck (Joann); and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 5589 Van Atta Road, Haslett, MI, Monday, January 27, 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends Sunday, January 26, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 E. Grand River Ave., East Lansing, and 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Memorials in Bob’s name may be sent to the American Cancer Society (www.donate.cancer.org), the Sparrow Hospice Program (www.sparrowfoundation.org, designation of “Hospice”), or to St. Luke Lutheran Church.
