Bijaya was born on October 4, 1984 in Kathmandu, Nepal, the daughter of Sundar and Neena Shrestha. Bijaya was proud to be born and raised as a Newar Nepali, calling herself “Mothered by Mountains.”
Bijaya received her bachelors from University of Louisville in 2007 and Juris Doctor from Northern Kentucky University in 2012. At the time of her passing, she worked for the National Wildlife Federation, Great Lakes Regional Center as a Drinking Water Policy Coordinator.
A self-proclaimed geek, Bijaya loved all things Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, and Game of Thrones and hosted podcasts on the topics. A passionate basketball fan, she loved the Louisville Cardinals and was a die-hard Kobe Bryant and Lakers fan. She was equally fond of all things dogs and loved her pets dearly. Her other joys were trying new food and baking treats for her family and friends. In her down time, she could be found curled up on the couch, knitting and crocheting. Bijaya was always ready to travel and go on adventures.
Bijaya lived a short but vibrant and full life, loved deeply by many. She loved hanging out with her friends. Her sisters will always cherish their memories with her - staying up late, ribbing at one another, playing Pictionary, Euchre, camping, hiking, and more. Bijaya will be remembered for her quick, sharp wit and being the fun and cool youngest aunt of the family.
Bijaya’s life is celebrated by her parents, Sundar and Neena Shrestha; sisters, Suni Shrestha (Paul Fluck), Juni (Bijay) Shrestha, and Leeni Shrestha (Scott Walker); nephews, Nikhil and Ehan; nieces, Maya, Ava, and Diya; Josh and her friends and her furbabies, Waffles and Avon.
