Barbara was born in Reading, PA to Elmer and Mary Kohl, a loving mother to four children, grandmother to six, great grandmother to two, a long time friend to many here and around the country. A graduate of East Lansing High School, she completed her education at Michigan State University, a retiree of MSU after 25 years as an Educational Program Coordinator, recipient of the Jack Breslin Distinguished Staff Award. She continued at MSU volunteering as an Advanced Master Gardner at MSU, and a fundraiser for the MSU Horticultural Gardens for several years.
A member at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in East Lansing since 1949, she served as an active Eucharistic minister, funeral ministry coordinator, member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society and Rosary Alter Society.
She is survived by her children: Ken Brochu (Michelle), Tom Brochu, Chris Brochu, and Jana Righter (John), grand children: Amber Woodend (Korey), Lindsey Freels (Tom), Kyle Brochu, Brendon Brochu, Hanna Righter, and Josh Righter, Great grandchildren: Beckham and Maeve, sister Mary Lou Lingo (Steve), nieces Debbie, Anne and Marylynn. Proceeded in death by her parents and niece Heather.
Visitation is January 11th, 2023 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm with a Rosary at 7:30 pm at Gorsline-Runciman East Chapel, East Lansing, Michigan.
Funeral service at St Thomas Aquinas Church in East Lansing, Michigan January 12th, 2023 at 11:00 am. She will be laid to rest at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Lansing, Michigan.
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to St. Vincent DePaul Society, MSU Horticultural Gardens or the charity of your choice in her name.
