Alice Mitchell Porter was born in Ravenna, Ohio, to Georgene and Abner Mitchell on June 9, 1920 and died on May 8, 2016 after a long and fulfilling life. After graduating from Eaton Rapids High School, Alice attended Michigan State where she was a member of the Tower Guard Freshman Honorary and a member of the Chi Omega sorority. Alice was always enthusiastically involved in family, church, volunteerism and real caring for her many friends throughout the years.
Alice married Tom Porter in 1940 and they celebrated 66 years of marriage.
Surviving are her three daughters and their families: Virginia (Peter) Crowley of Summerville, South Carolina; Anne Porter Day, of East Lansing; Jane (Tom) Jarabek of Birmingham, Michigan. Grandchildren: Suzanne Crowley (Michael) Ezell, Thomas N. Crowley, Susan (Nico) Gisholt, Jonathon Jarabek and Katie Jarabek. Great grandchildren: Alison Ezell, Anna Ezell, Elizabeth Gisholt and Carolina Gisholt.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Tom, her parents and her sister Elizabeth M. Wolfson.
The family wishes to thank the Staff of the Dobie Road Care Facility for their wonderful care of Alice and the beautiful life they created for her in her last years.
A service will be held at 3 PM on July 16, 2016, at All Saints Episcopal Church.
