Vito Joseph Sarli

Vito Joseph Sarli, 89, of Manchester, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 22, 2018. He was born in Worcester, MA on August 18, 1929, a son of the late Bartista Sarli and Maria (Manzi) Sarli. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 45 years, Josephine B. Sarli. Vito is survived by his three children and their spouses; Christopher James and Jennifer Sarli of Glastonbury, Nancy and Robert Coffey of South Windsor, JoAnn and Michael Chernushek of Mansfield; and his three adored grandchildren; Kelly Anne Coffey, Christopher James Sarli Jr, and Landon Hanson Sarli. He also leaves behind his siblings; Bart Sarli of Worcester, MA, Joseph and Marilyn Sarli of Worcester, MA, Angela and John Lovell of NH; and many dear nieces and nephews.

Vito graduated from North High School, Worcester, MA. He received a one year scholarship to Holy Cross College from the Italian American Businessmen’s Association. From Holy Cross, he then attended Worcester Polytech Institute, graduating in 1952. He obtained his Master of Science Degree from Worcester Polytech Institute in June of 1954. He moved to Michigan and was a student instructor at Michigan State University, while pursuing his PhD in Chemical Engineering in 1960. He moved back to Connecticut to begin his career at United Aircraft Technologies in the Aerospace Industry, where he met and married the love of his life, Josephine. He mentored many of the young engineers due to his extensive knowledge and experience. He was well respected by his colleagues and held in high regard within the Aerospace Industry. He and his team had been written up in Aerospace periodicals for patents in jet engine technology. He retired in 1991 at 62 years old. Vito was an avid investor in the financial markets, actively followed politics, loved classical music, Italian opera, sailing, woodworking, landscaping, and in later years, he perfected his culinary skills; especially his corned beef and cabbage, and even managed to outdo Josephine’s homemade apple pie.

Funeral service will be Saturday (December 29th) at 10:15 am from the D’ESOPO-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11 am in St. James Church, 896 Main Street, Manchester. Interment will follow in Mount Saint Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home chapel on Saturday morning (December 29th) from 9 to 10:15 am.
