Richard “Dick” J. Jordan, 88, of East Hartford, loving husband of fifty years of the late Irene J. (Hoinoski) Jordan, passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday, April 9, 2023 at Glastonbury Health Care Center. Born in Hartford, the son of the late Moses and Genevieve (Kopec) Jordan, he had been a resident of East Hartford since 1962. A survivor of the July 6, 1944 Hartford circus fire, Richard was a graduate of Bulkeley High School in Hartford, class of 1952 and Trinity College in Hartford, class of 1956. He later earned a Master’s degree in Education from Central Connecticut University in New Britain, and another Master’s degree from the University of Hartford. Prior to his retirement, Richard was a high school teacher at East Hartford High School for over 25 years.
A devout Catholic, Richard was an active and faithful communicant of Our Lady of Peace Church, East Hartford where he was the chairman of the Bingo committee and the annual church picnic. He was also involved with the food baskets for those in need at holidays. Richard liked working in his vegetable garden and his yard, reading history about the civil war, and solving daily “Sudoku” puzzles. He was a fan of the Boston Red Sox who would attend their annual winter fest with his daughter, and liked to watch the UConn men and women basketball games with his daughter.
Richard is survived by his beloved caring daughter, Catherine Mary Jordan of East Hartford with whom he made his home; his pet dog, Zush; many former teachers, students, and dear friends.
Funeral service will be Friday (April 14, 2023) at 9 am from the D’Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 am at Our Lady of Peace Church of St. Edmund Campion Parish, 370 May Road, East Hartford. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hebron Avenue, Glastonbury. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home chapel on Thursday evening (April 13, 2023) from 5 – 7 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Richard’s name may be made to St. Edmund Campion Parish, 538 Brewer Street, East Hartford, CT 06118.
