Raymond Alton Benjamin, 89, longtime resident of Glastonbury, passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2019. Raymond was the beloved husband of Carol Jean (MacPherson) Benjamin. Raymond was born November 26, 1929, in Greenfield, MA, a son of the late Raymond Irving and Evelyn (Cory) Benjamin.
Raymond attended East Hartford High School, University of Connecticut, and graduated from Randall School of Art and Design. He proudly served in the United States Air Force.
Raymond was a dedicated employee of Stop & Shop for 48 years, holding many different manager positions. He was well liked and respected by his peers.
Raymond will be remembered as a devoted husband, strong and compassionate father. He will be dearly missed by his entire family: wife Carol, daughters Robin Benjamin, Kim Roy, Raeleen Anderson and her husband Burt, all of Glastonbury; grandchildren, Robert Roy and his wife Cathie of Hebron, Nicholas Roy and his wife Jennifer of Manchester, Meghan Roy of Manchester and her significant other Jose Espinosa, Shannon Sales and her fiancé Paul Boulanger of Glastonbury, Dillon Anderson and his wife Brigette of Manchester, great grandchildren Benjamin, Taylor, Brianna, Landon, Alivia and Liam and Brenton. He is also survived by brother Richard Benjamin and his wife Sally of Yucca Valley, CA, sister Florence Woods and her husband Richmond of West Hartford, brother Ronald Benjamin and his wife Alice of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and several nieces and nephews.
He had many passions in life including fishing, boating, going to the beach, trips to Cape Cod and working in his yard. He appreciated fine, well-crafted antique cars, and he enjoyed going to local car shows.
A period of visitation will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2019 from 12noon-2pm at Glastonbury Funeral Home, 450 New London Tpke., Glastonbury, CT 06033. A Memorial Service will follow, 2:15pm at the Congregational Church In South Glastonbury, 949 Main Street, South Glastonbury. Burial with Military Honors will follow immediately in Green Cemetery.
