Michael Griswold Murphy, 80, of Glastonbury, CT, passed away October 6, 2018 in the presence of his family. He was born in Hartford and grew up in Wethersfield. The son of Sue and Val Murphy, Mike graduated from Wethersfield High School in 1956.
Mike Murphy was the embodiment of kindness, stability, love and calm for his family. He leaves behind his wife of 54 years, Jean, and his children, Scott and Todd and daughters-in-law Wendy and Chi. Mike was a devoted grandfather. He lived for his grandchildren Andrew, Abigail, Jessica, Alex and Tyler, never missing a game, show or recital of his kids or grandchildren. Their accomplishments were sources of pride and happiness.
Mike was also the proud older brother of Scott and Dean and uncle to nine nieces and nephews.
Much to the disappointment of his children, Mike was a Yankees fan. His Yanks beat the Sox the night he passed. Mike was also a huge fan of UConn Women’s Basketball and the New York Giants Football.
Mike was someone who could be leaned on in a crisis. He was a voice of calm reassurance to family, friends, neighbors and acquaintances. Mike did not judge. He offered a helping hand and supportive words to anyone who needed it.
Mike worked for more than 40 years in the insurance industry for the Phoenix Mutual and The Hartford.
