Mary "GG" Mantie-Fillatti, age 96, of East Hartford, Connecticut passed away on Tuesday, April 25, 2023. Mary was born November 27th, 1926 in Hartford, CT to the parents of Herman and Edith Mantie. Mary was an East Hartford crossing guard for 42 and a half years on various posts where she was known as "Mother Of The Corner". She always remembered all the kids birthdays and was famously known for giving everyone their favorite candy-bars. Mary was an avid sports fan always watching The Boston Red Sox and the UConn Women's basketball. Every birthday card Mary ever sent always included her famous words "Have a rainbow day" on the sealing flap of the envelope. Her favorite holiday was Thanksgiving, she would savor every course of the meal. Her Family was incredibly sacred to her and she loved to spend time with them and baking for everyone to enjoy. Mary loved any and all animals and treated all her pets like family. She will forever be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all that crossed her path.
Mary was predeceased by her husband Robert Fillatti, son Doug Fillatti, brothers Ken, Clayt, Dick, Joe, Jim and Charles Mantie, sister Bernice Wade, and her sister-in-law Phillis Mantie who was like a sister to her.
Mary is survived by her daughter Katherine Cistare and husband Len, grandson Craig Cistare and wife Sue, granddaughter Kristine Schreindorfer and husband Paul, great-grandchildren Andrew and Jessica Schreindorfer and her cat Chuckie. Mary leaves behind a multitude of nieces and nephews that she loved and cared for as well.
A special thank you to Dick & Joan Hatch, Patty Kiefer, Tish Dominguez, Cindy Chabre, Carl Kennedy, and Jen Tetreault for playing a pivotal role in Mary's life by being wonderful neighbors, gameshow viewing buddies, and overall caring individuals that brought light to Mary's life each and every day.
Mary wanted her last words to you all to state the following: "Thank you for the memories, love you all. Have a rainbow day! -The Old Grey Mare."
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
A visitation for Mary will be held Monday, May 1, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave, East Hartford, Connecticut 06108. A brief gathering will be held at the funeral home from 9:30am until 10:00am. A mass of Christian burial will occur Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at 10:30 AM at St. Christopher Church, 538 Brewer St, East Hartford, CT. A committal service will occur Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at 11:30 AM at Silver Lane Cemetery, 1280 Silver Lane, East Hartford, CT.
