John ""Jay"" B. McNamara, 64, of East Hartford, passed peacefully after his battle with cancer on Saturday, November 29, 2014 surrounded by his family and friends. Jay, a 1969 graduate of Penny High School in East Hartford, began his career at Coca-Cola in East Hartford before he went to CPI where he completed courses to be an IT worker. From there he went on to work in data processing centers for several local banks, eventually finding his way to the IT Department for Computer Science Corporation where he worked at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in Middletown. Jay is survived by his wife of 39 years, Debbie, his mother Kay McNamara of East Hartford, and his sister Nancy McNamara of Largo, FL. He is also survived by his daughter and her husband, Jillian McNamara and Chris McCue, and their son Aiden McCue of East Hartford, as well as his son and wife, Patrick and Caitlin McNamara of Manchester. He also leaves behind many cousins, aunts, uncles, and dear friends. Jay was predeceased by his father John J. McNamara and his brother Thomas McNamara, both of East Hartford. Growing up Jay enjoyed playing baseball, basketball and football. He later became an avid skier, making many trips to Vermont with friends for the weekend. He also had a passion for small boat sailing, making an annual trip down to Key West, FL for a Force5 Regatta. Jay could always be found supporting his children as a coach, scout leader, or chauffer when they were growing up. In the recent years, his grandson Aiden became his world and his shadow spending many afternoons and weekends together. Jay was also active with the South Congregational Church Youth Group in East Hartford and volunteered with the Holiday Food Baskets at South Congregational and St. Christopher Churches in East Hartford. Funeral service will be Friday (December 5th) at 11 am at South Congregational Church, 1301 Forbes Street, East Hartford with Rev. Al Turner officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, (Section K), Burnside Avenue, East Hartford. Relatives and friends may call at the D'Esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford on Thursday (December 4th) from 3-7 pm.
