John A. Greeno Sr., 94, beloved husband to Katherine (Whalen) Greeno of East Hartford and Mount Holly, VT, married for 69 years and beyond and forever, entered into God’s care on Wednesday, December 13, 2023. John was born in Wallingford, Vermont and was the son of Albert & Irene (Gaffney) Greeno. John proudly served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He had been employed by Firestone Tire & Rubber Company, his true job love and later by First National Super Markets. He enjoyed spending his time back in his beloved Vermont, working in his garden and enjoying the snow, soo much snow, living on the backside of Okemo Mountain. Soo much snow!! He was a lifetime member of the Irish American Home in Glastonbury, and also of the Elks Club and the VFW.
In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by his sons, Thomas Greeno of South Windsor John Greeno Jr. of East Hartford; his daughter-in-law, Kay Greeno and his grandchildren, Erin Greeno and Andrew Greeno. He is predeceased by his son, James Greeno and his sister, Mary Benson.
Family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, December 21, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Edmund Campion Parish – St. Christopher Church Campus, 538 Brewer St., East Hartford followed by burial with military honors in Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
