Harry A. Cassidy, 89, of East Hartford, beloved husband for more than 64 years of Phyllis (Soucier) Cassidy, peacefully went to be with our Lord with his caring family by his side on Tuesday, July 16, 2024. Born in Houlton, ME on December 30, 1934, he was the son of the late Charles and Dorothy (Bragdon) Cassidy. Harry served proudly in the Army National Guard for six years during the Korean War. He was a police officer in Maine for 5 years prior to retiring as a police officer in East Hartford after 25 years of dedicated service. After retirement, he was a security guard for the Mark Twain House in Hartford for 23 years.
A devout Catholic, Harry was a longtime communicant of St. Mary’s Church. He was a member of the NRA and Sheriff’s Association of America. Harry enjoyed going to the East Hartford Senior Center and loved fishing in Maine. An avid reader, he was known as “The Quiet Man.” He and Phyllis liked traveling, and especially loved their trips to Florida, Arizona and Hawaii. More than anything, Harry looked forward to getting together with his family for holidays and cookouts.
In addition to his devoted wife Phyllis, Harry will be forever missed by his five children, Rhonda C. Hogan and her husband James of Titusville, FL, Edward Harold Cassidy of Manchester, Harry John Cassidy and his wife Aldona of Pueblo West, CO, Andrew Michael Cassidy of Hampton, VA and Patrick Charles Cassidy of Bolton; six adored grandchildren and six cherished great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Dianne Johnson and her husband Gaynor of Manchester, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by four brothers, Edward Cassidy, Terrance Cassidy, Wendell Cassidy, and Bryant Cassidy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church of North American Martyrs Parish, 15 Maplewood Avenue, East Hartford. Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church. Burial with military honors will follow in Green Cemetery, Hubbard Street, Glastonbury. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Harry’s memory may be made to North American Martyrs Parish or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
