Frank Greene, 84, of East Hartford, CT passed away on June 1, 2024 in the arms of his loving wife, Carol (Dostmann) Greene. Born on August 21, 1939, he was the son of the late Frank Sr. and Anna (Jackumn) Greene and was a lifelong resident of East Hartford. After graduating from East Hartford High School (Class of 1957), Frank married his high school sweetheart, Carol, and took a job with Pratt and Whitney where he worked until his retirement at fifty-eight years old. He was extremely proud of his tenure at Pratt and Whitney, leaving him with a passion and deep knowledge about all types of aircraft, which he liked to share with others. Frank also had a fondness for cars, and after his retirement he took on a part time job at the South Windsor Car Auction, which he relished and continued to do for seven more years!
Frank spent much of his life immersed in baseball; coaching and umpiring Little League and watching his children and grandchildren play for decades. He taught many a kid how to play and was admired for his skill and immense understanding of the game. He was a HUGE Yankee fan! He was also an enthusiast of old school Nascar, and could often be seen driving his convertible Mustang around town. Frank also played fast-pitch softball for many years and was an avid runner and cyclist. At 84 years old, he still went to the gym religiously, where the “gym rats” aspired to be like him when they were his age. He also enjoyed going for long, brisk walks, listening to Classic Rock, watching the sunset over at the cornfield, and observing the planets and stars from his backyard. After retiring, Frank and Carol spent most of their time together: hanging out with their late, beloved black lab, Jeremiah, going to the beach, taking road trips, watching Yankee games and celebrating many special occasions with the family; at home, in Vermont and in Michigan. Frank especially enjoyed watching all four of his grandchildren grow up. All attest to the fact that Grandpa was “one of the best people they have ever known”, having great influence upon the wonderful young adults they have become; leaving an impression on them forever! And although he had a rough exterior, deep down inside he had a heart of gold and a soft spot for those he loved; always willing to lend a hand.
Frank was honest, loyal, and trustworthy. He was a mentor and a teacher. He was selfless and generous. He was smart. He was wise. He was proud of who he was and what he had accomplished. He was proud of his children, he was proud of his grandchildren, he was proud of his family. And Frank felt very proud, lucky and blessed to live in these United States of America! He was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was one of a kind. He was a great man, taken from us too soon and will be missed by many.
Along with his wife, Frank is survived by his three children: Frank C. Greene III of West Hartford, Lynne-Marie Rowe and husband Jody of Jamaica,Vermont and Kevin Walter Greene of Petoskey, Michigan, four admired grandchildren: Mitchell, Lauren, Storm and Casper, along with many nieces, nephews and close friends. Frank was predeceased by his three sisters: Claire, Liza, and Ann.
