Evelyn “Ev” (DeWolfe) Vann, 92, of East Hartford, beloved wife of 46 years of the late Peter A. Vann, passed away peacefully with her caring family by her side on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at Manchester Memorial Hospital. Born in New London on December 23, 1926, a daughter of the late Walter L. and Dora W. (Lee) DeWolfe, she had been a resident of East Hartford for the past 59 years. Evelyn was a graduate of Chapman Tech High School in New London, Class of 1946 and retired from the State of Connecticut after many years of dedicated service with the Motor Vehicle Department and Health Department. She was a member of the East Hartford Women’s 9-Hole Golf League and the East Hartford Southend Senior Center. A women of strong faith, she was a former member of the South Congregational Church of East Hartford. Evelyn was a devoted wife and mother whose sole purpose was the loving care of her family. She was a consummate homemaker skilled at cooking, sewing, and maintaining a wonderful home for her family. She enjoyed many happy days with her family at Rocky Neck Beach and vacationing on Block Island while many a special holiday were spent in Salem with her loving parents, sisters, and extended family. She generously knitted beautiful Afghans for her entire family. She cherished her grandsons and friends and treated everyone who knew her with kindness. Her smile will be remembered by all who met her.
Evelyn is survived by her two loving children, Carol E. Vann of East Hartford with whom she made her home, D. Christopher Vann and his wife, Judith, of East Hartford; three adored grandsons, Nathan Vann of Coventry, Aaron Vann of East Hartford, Jonathan Vann of East Hartford; several nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Along with her husband and parents, Evelyn was predeceased by four sisters, Marilyn Johnson of Montville, Beverly Manwaring of Niantic, Joan Hunter in Mississippi, and Beatrice Brooks of South Glastonbury.
Funeral service will be Thursday (December 19th) at 10:30 am at the D’ESOPO-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford with Rev. Kelly-Jane Caesar officiating. Burial will follow at Silver Lane Cemetery (Section H), East Hartford. Evelyn’s family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday (December 18th) from 3:30 – 6:30 pm at the funeral home chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Evelyn’s name may be made to a favorite charity of the donor’s choice.
