Dorothy Ann “Dot” (Bednarz) Zemantic, 89, of East Hartford, loving wife of 66 years of John “Jack” F. Zemantic, peacefully entered into eternal life on Tuesday, September 17, 2019. Born in Hartford on July 14, 1930, a daughter of the late John and Anna (Leniart) Bednarz, Dot grew up in Wethersfield and was a graduate of Wethersfield High School, Class of 1948. Prior to her retirement in 1990, Dot was employed as a Receptionist by the Finn Company in Hartford for over 15 years.
A resident of East Hartford for the past 63 years, Dot was a devout catholic and longtime communicant of Our Lady of Peace Church, East Hartford and a member of the church Retiree’s Club. She and Jack were blessed with many lifelong friends that they enjoyed in East Hartford and at their cottage at Cape Cod. They hosted card games and Cape Cod Clambakes for many years. Dot enjoyed sewing (curtains and clothes), a good day at the casino, rooting for UCONN basketball, and being at her cottage and beach at the Cape. Most of all, Dot was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who loved spending time with her family and friends.
Along with her beloved husband Jack, Dot is survived by two sons, Stephen J. Zemantic and his wife, Gail, of Wethersfield, Thomas A. Zemantic and his wife, Joanne, of East Hartford; a daughter, Mary-Beth Raymond and her husband, David, of East Hartford; her cherished grandchildren, Scott and Sarah Zemantic, Carolyn and Colin Brown, Zachary and Bonnie Zemantic, Hayley Zemantic, David and Jacqueline Raymond, Rachael and Marissa Fogarty; and one adored great-granddaughter, Nora Ursin. She also leaves two brothers, George Bednarz and his companion, Gerri, of East Harford, Raymond Bednarz and his wife, Marilyn, of Wethersfield; many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Besides her parents, Dot was predeceased by two brothers, John Bednarz of Newington and Andrew Bednarz of New Britain.
Funeral service will be Friday (September 20, 2019) with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:30 am at Our Lady of Peace Church of St. Edmund Campion Parish, 370 May Road, East Hartford. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, (Section 1), Hebron Avenue, Glastonbury. Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church on Friday morning. Dorothy’s family will receive relatives and friends at the D’ESOPO-East Harford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford on Thursday (September 19, 2019) from 4 – 7 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Dorothy’s name may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
